Friends you hear from at Christmas or afterwards

Don't you hate it when long ago,
far away friends
email you when
your annual Christmas greeting card doesn't show.
You want to email back and say,  "No,  I'm not dead."

Unvetted Venting

Some things I write about because
I need to get the "whatever" out of my system.

Looking through years of undated files of family photos,  I notice,  time blends.

Adding the Niceties

At eighty-five, She loves life - lives life.
And takes a lot of meds with side effects to do it.

Fashion clothing She wears.   Beauty shop of Fridays.
Fresh flowers always on the dining room table.
Roast beef dinners with carmeled carrots.
Cakes for every birthday.
Not make do.

When She was twelve she picked potatoes in the fields
Along with all her other chores, to buy things
Out of Penny's catalog.
Clothes for herself and and her siblings.
Dotted Swiss fabric for curtains she knew how to sew.
Made to brighten her family's farmhouse living room.

Protein

The elderly man at the check out line has in his cart
a large bag of peanuts in the shell,  that is all.
Is this his dinner,  or is he feeding the squirrels?

Not to slip and fall

photo by Jeremy D.,  Jay's fish decoy, ice fishing friend.
Twenty-four below with ice and snow, and we are told wherever we  walk, to walk like penguins.

Inconvenience Store

I live in a triangle
of three small towns where three stores long established have recently gone out of business- box, drug store, and mom and pop grocery.   Replaced?
Buying a dozen eggs now requires a long drive.

See There

I lost my good glasses.  (I was wearing an old pair that has  better bifocals for reading.)
I searched every possible corner and decided they'd gone out with the garbage on Tuesday morning.
I needed to find them.  This  old pair I'm wearing, barely survived a full cycle in the washing machine.
But there!  At the bottom shelf of books they lay.  It's a good day.

Books Checking Out

Writing the Narrative by Chase and Del Plaine,
copyright 1928:
Authors who  spoke of  "interestingness".
I suppose that word is all but obsolete.

There are books on the shelves in the thrifts shops-
the new old library.
I'm finding volumes  that I like from the 1990's.
For the most part,  interestingness is going by the wayside.

Something New in the Pot

Has anyone created
the spicy/not spicy cook book yet?
On the same page and in
the same pot.
Half of it spicy, and half of it not.
