Out from behind a pencil I am mush.  But I have a fist full of pencils.

Daily Dose

I'm preparing liver and onions for dinner.
My grandmother, in the days  before vitamins  (Vitamin B in particular),
ate raw liver every day for her anemia.
Oh quiver.

Perishable Gift

Homemade Christmas cookies given at the office to a fellow co-worker:
"Take some home for your kids."
"No",  said the co-worker.  "I'll eat them here.  My kids don't know about homemade cookies."

It's a Snap

Tying a long scarf has been a mystery to me,
until recently.  I figured it out while watching  the latest Sherlock Holmes movie on PBS.
The young Sherlock in black,  with scarf folded in half, swung it around his neck and looped  through the open ends. Just like that.

In Need of Resolution.

My life is tired.
It is time to depart (once more) from sugar.
But I have a batch of fudge for Christmas to make.
Kiwi and pineapple...the new tradition?

Mother plans to put together  a cookbook and leave her legacy - she's a good cook.
A copy for  each of her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I wonder if she'll include a back page that reveals  the techniques and ingredients omitted. Surely she hasn't been telling me everything, because my sugar cookies, using her recipe,  don't turn out as good as her sugar cookies.
Disappointment is hard on people.

Whistle Remains

Whistle Remains In  A Small Town

The noon whistle blows- twelve: Go have lunch.
Again it blows at One:  Back on the job.

Morning whistle.
Six AM:  Get up.
Seven:  Show up at work on time.

The  Canadian Pacific rumbles  through, and at the crossroads,
whistles  too.

And  I don't notice the whistle at five o'clock quitt'n time.

Sleep on it?

The bad thing about creativity is that it keeps you up at night.

Giving thanks:  for the freedom to go about life without a whole lot of distractions.

Friends you hear from at Christmas or afterwards

Don't you hate it when long ago,  far away friends email you when  your annual Christmas greeting card doesn't show. You want to...
