Spring Arrival

(May 2014 mother's day)
Spring Arrival
no grass yet to mow.
no flower to pick the sweet aroma.
squirrel out dancing
from branch to branch
easy to see
no leaf out yet.
goose on the nest.
swan  flying over.
robin landing
like a tail dragger
on a make do runway.

I'm beginning to realize, after an eye appointment get old and your eyes start to go.
I tell my brother,  "We can eat more carrots."
He replies,  "What did it do for the rabbit on Captain Kangaroo?   Don't you remember his big round glasses?"

Stay real.

In the past, folks  went to the circus.  Now the world  has become one.

But I guess a person doesn't need to get so griped up about it-
But to stay real.

There will  come a day...
there will  come a poem...

It's a winter with nothing but cold.
The electricity has been shut off.
First time in forty years.
The shop building will come down.
Dad, who is 84 keeps
his arthritic hands close to his chest
to keep them warm.
(Hands embedded with axle grease.)
At his home, the phone rings-
A friend,  a neighbor,  a farmer who asks
"Leland, will you overhaul my tractor?
Soon it will be spring and
I'll need to get back into the fields."

Hmmm and Hummus

The squirrels I feed don't like   garbanzo beans.
Hmmm.  I like hummus but most people I know, don't.

Friends you hear from at Christmas or afterwards

Don't you hate it when long ago,  far away friends email you when  your annual Christmas greeting card doesn't show. You want to...
